Student Move In 2017 Information

As we enter into the last months of summer, Loyola University Chicago is preparing for the 2017-2018 Academic Year. In two weeks, we will be welcoming a record class of 2700 first year students for a total of 4500 new and returning students to on-campus housing. As we have done during the past twelve years, we are sending this courtesy letter to inform you of the move-in activities taking place at the Lake Shore Campus on Monday, August 21 through Saturday, August 26, 2017.

Campus Residence Halls
Loyola move-in staff and volunteers will be organizing and assisting students as they move into residence halls
across campus. Friday, August 25, we will host freshman convocation and no move-in will take place. Please take note of the following days and times during which the City has provided a permit to designate “no parking” on area streets to facilitate move in. (table on page 2). This will help us accommodate the families and students that will be unloading vehicles.

We have heard and responded to the parking hardships experienced by our neighbors and eliminated Sunday as a move-in day for the second straight year. Thanks to your helpful feedback and more streamlined planning we have reduced the overall number of streets and amount of days with parking restrictions by 45% to further alleviate strain on street parking. If your vehicle is parked on one of these streets during the days/times listed, it will be relocated by the City of Chicago at your expense. Towing is dictated by the City and not in Loyola’s control. If your vehicle has been towed, contact Campus Safety at 773-508-6039 or call 311, the City’s non-emergency number.

Off-Campus Students
As you know, many upper-class students rent apartments in the area that are not operated by the university. While we do not make special arrangements for these moves, I have requested a special attention to no-parking areas
around Loyola with Streets and Sanitation. The requested attention includes Loyola, Albion, Arthur, Northshore, Columbia, Wayne, Lakewood, Kenmore, and Winthrop. I do not wish to bother our neighbors any more than we have to with student cars illegally parked in tow-zones, blocking fire hydrants, or blocking driveways and alleys. If these students take an illegal parking risk, they should face the consequences.

Finally, Loyola University Chicago is invested in fostering good relationships between University students and our surrounding neighbors. As a valued neighbor, please know that we are available to you if you would like to discuss Loyola students and their presence in the neighborhood. For questions or concerns during business hours please call 773-508-8840 or email deanofstudents@luc.edu. If it is after business hours and you need to report an issue, please call Campus Safety at 773-508-6039. For more information about student related inquiries, please visit LUC.edu/dos.

Thank you very much for your patience. If you have any questions, need any further information, or experience any undue hardships relating to move-in, please, do not hesitate to call me at 773.508.7450 or email communityrelations@luc.edu .
