Badge Earning Criteria & Assessment Strategies
To earn a badge, participants must meet specific earning criteria. Earning criteria will vary depending on the badge category and level. For example, to earn an engagement-level professional development badge, a participant may need to attend or participate in an event or conference. To earn a proficiency or mastery level academic badge, a participant may need to complete a capstone project that demonstrates their mastery of the course or program material.
The criteria for earning badges will be defined by the unit (collection admin) and approved by the Digital Badging Review Committee via the proposal process. Earning criteria must be communicated to badge earners in advance.
The assessment strategies for each assessed level will be designed to align with the criteria and may include a combination of the following:
- Participation in online or in-person activities, such as events and conferences, or course or program activity such as discussions, quizzes, or group projects.
- Submission of evidence of learning or skill development, such as written reflections, portfolio artifacts, etc.
- Completion of an assessment, such as an exam, project, or presentation.
- Peer or expert review of work or performance.
- Completion of a capstone project or demonstration of proficiency in a skill or competency.
A digital badge assessment rubric will be used to ensure that the badge accurately represents the learners' achievements and provides a clear and consistent way to measure learners' progress.
