Issuing Authority & Revisions
Issuing Authority
Badge governance is administered by the Digital Badging Review Committee. The committee will review all new digital badge proposals and make decisions on approval. Once approved, digital badge collection managers are responsible issuing digital badge credentials. It is also the responsibility of digital badge collection managers to ensure a workflow within their unit to review, evaluate, and issue credentials to earners in a timely fashion.
Credential Development
It is the responsibility of the Digital Badging Review Committee to oversee all digital credentials based on the agreed-upon framework. When units request approval to offer new digital credentials, they will complete an intake request form detailing how the new credential aligns with the university framework. These reviews will be conducted each semester when the Digital Badging Review Committee meets.
Platform Access
The Digital Badging Review Committee will determine the level of access needed by users creating and issuing credentials. They may be granted permissions as issuers, authors/editors, or read-only for the purpose of earner support or analytics. Only the governing body will have administrative access to the Credly platform.
Expirations
The Digital Badging Review Committee will collaborate with issuing units determine if/when credentials should be issued with expiration dates.
Expirations will be established for credentials that meet the following conditions:
- If required for annual compliance purposes.
- If significant changes to the information covered in the certificate program occur, badge earners will be notified about any additional education or testing that must be completed to maintain the certificate. If completed, the additional education or pass the additional testing, badge earners will remain a certificate holder and the digital badge description will be updated to reflect new competencies where applicable. If the additional education and/or testing is not completed successfully, the certificate will expire electronically.
Revisions to Credentials
It will be the responsibility of the Digital Badging Review Committee to review all credentials on an annual basis. If credentials need to be revised or archived, the Digital Badging Review Committee will communicate the concern to the issuing unit and consult about necessary revisions. For credentials requiring substantial changes, the committee may elect to archive and create a new version of the credential so as not to impact former earners.
