Badge Proposal & Approval Process

Digital Badge Proposals

The digital badge proposal must be initiated by the academic or administrative unit (i.e., department, office, center, etc.) using the digital badge proposal form. The following information must be included in the proposal submission:

  • Completion of the Badge Proposal Worksheet
  • Badge title and series information
  • Badge category, level, and audience
  • Context
  • Learning objectives
  • Criteria
  • Evidence
  • Assessment strategy, where applicable

The Badge Proposal Worksheet is an Excel document to download and using as a working document to compile and complete ahead of submitting the digital badge proposal form.

Badge Approval Process

Upon submission, the approval process will encompass:

  1. Evaluation of digital badge proposal submissions during the next subsequent Digital Badging Review Committee meeting. In the event there are any questions concerning the resources or information provided, a member of the committee will follow-up for further information.
  2. Following approval by the Digital Badging Review Committee, the committee designee will mock up a badge design and consult with the issuing unit. Design will be on approved template and will adhere to organizational badge category and level standards.
  3. Issuing unit will conduct a collection level process to review, assess, and award individual badges to earners.
  4. Collection level administrator will upload earner data into the digital badging platform to formally award badges.
  5. The Collection level administrator will review all approved collection badges annually and any submit any modifications to the Digital Badging Review Committee through the regular digital badging proposal process.

Note: Digital badges that represent the cumulation of any official academic program (microcredential, certificate, or degree program) must follow established curriculum approval policies and processes prior to beginning the digital badge proposal process.
