Sergeant First Class Cody Ashby, Assistant Professor of Military Science

Sergeant First Class (SFC) Cody Ashby enlisted into the United States Army as an Infantryman (11B) in 2014. He completed One Station Unit Training (OSUT) in Fort Benning, Georgia. Upon completion of OSUT, he attended Airborne School.

Following Airborne School, SFC Ashby was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. During his time with the 82nd Airborne Division, he held the positions of rifleman, grenadier, machine gunner, and team leader. He successfully deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel in 2017-2018.

In 2019, SFC Ashby decided to change his military occupational specialty (MOS) to become a Patriot Enhanced Operator/Maintainer (14T). Upon completion of Advanced Individual Training, he was stationed in South Korea with the 35th ADA BDE, 6-52 ADA BN, Alpha Battery. Before serving as a Military Science Instructor at Loyola University Chicago, he served as a Platoon Sergeant for the 31st ADA BDE, 3-2 ADA BN, Bravo Battery, Fort Sill, Oklahoma. During his time with the 31st ADA BDE, he conducted a rotation to Poland and completed two deployments to Kuwait.

SFC Ashby's awards and decorations include the Parachutist Badge, Patriot Master Gunner Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Army Superior Unit Award. He is also the recipient of the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (Bronze) and the German Schutzenschnur (Gold).
