Each November, the Loyola University Chicago community comes together in a variety of settings to celebrate and reflect on our Ignatian heritage and its continued influence on our work today. Ignatian Heritage Month is both a tradition and an invitation to deeper contemplation and renewed action.

Teilhard de Chardin S.J. Lecture featuring Sr. Ilia Delio, OSF

The Hank Center welcomes Sr. Ilia Delio as our 2025 Teilhard de Chardin, S.J. visiting Fellow in Catholic Studies. Professor Delio, who specializes in the area of science, technology, and religion, will offer this year's Teilhard lecture: "Incarnation and Evolution: The Catholic Vision of Teilhard de Chardin." The lecture will engage Teilhard's theological vision as a framework that offers valuable orientation for navigating contemporary challenges marked by rapid technological and social transformation.

Community Service & Action Art Contest 

This contest celebrates artistic endeavors as it draws upon the Universal Apostolic Preferences (UAPs) set forth by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits): Caring for our Common Home, Journeying with Youth, Walking with the Excluded, and Showing the Way to God. We invite students to reflect on the UAPs and reflection prompts provided by CSA and then to create and submit photography, digital art, or photos of visual art that expresses their thoughts and reflections. Submissions open on Wednesday, October 8 and close on Sunday, November 2.

Pope Leo's first papal document teaches us that "Love for the Lord is one with love for the poor." Join a distinguished panel facilitated by Dr. Brian Flanagan, Cardinal Cody Chair of Catholic Theology, to discuss how we can continue to be persons for others in solidarity with the marginalized of our world.

"Beginnings of Loyola: Rooted in the Immigrant Experience" with Chicago Historian Ellen Skerrett

Chicago historian Ellen Skerrett is returning to the Lake Shore campus to discuss her further research into Loyola’s 19th century origins since the 2008 publication of Born in Chicago: A History of Chicago’s Jesuit University.  Her visual presentation will feature archival gems highlighting Arnold Damen as a city-builder and his vision of urban education at LUC’s first campus home on Chicago’s West Side, now known as Saint Ignatius College Prep.  Skerrett will also explore Fr. Damen’s invitation in 1867 to the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary who built the Mundelein College skyscraper (now part of LUC’s campus) and educated the mother of Pope Leo XIV.

The Hank Center for the Catholic Intellectual Heritage and Campus Ministry invite undergraduate students to participate in a research colloquium dedicated to the great Salvadoran priest and theologian, Jon Sobrino. This colloquium, bringing together undergraduate scholars from Loyola University Chicago and Marquette University, seeks to provide an opportunity for theological reflection rooted in worship and the Catholic intellectual tradition, and oriented outward in loving service to our world.

Employee Labre Outing

In the spirit of gratitude this Thanksgiving season and as we get closer to the end of Ignatian Heritage Month, faculty staff on the Water Tower Campus have the opportunity to participate in Loyola's homeless outreach led by Labre Homeless Outreach student leaders. We will meet in Baumhart Hall to make a simple meal and gather donations for outreach before walking around WTC to connect with neighbors experiencing street homelessness.

The Hank Center for the Catholic Intellectual Heritage and Campus Ministry invite undergraduate students to participate in a research colloquium dedicated to the great Salvadoran priest and theologian, Jon Sobrino. This colloquium, bringing together undergraduate scholars from Loyola University Chicago and Marquette University, seeks to provide an opportunity for theological reflection rooted in worship and the Catholic intellectual tradition, and oriented outward in loving service to our world.

Employee Labre Outing

In the spirit of gratitude this Thanksgiving season and as we get closer to the end of Ignatian Heritage Month, faculty staff on the Water Tower Campus have the opportunity to participate in Loyola's homeless outreach led by Labre Homeless Outreach student leaders. We will meet in Baumhart Hall to make a simple meal and gather donations for outreach before walking around WTC to connect with neighbors experiencing street homelessness.
