Advanced Procedure Education Center (APEC), Health Sciences Campus

The Advanced Procedure Education Center (APEC) provides experienced staff and technical resources to cover the full range of needs required by advanced surgical, medical, and nursing learners.  Expert faculty provide innovative learning opportunities where skills can be practiced to mastery.

The APEC comprises a large multi-purpose lab with a moveable center wall, two anatomy bays, a human patient simulator with control room, The Richard A. Perritt Charitable Foundation Stereo Learning Center, a Virtual Reality lab, and a laparoscopic training lab, along with prep and storage rooms, freezers and coolers, office space, and a conference room.

Our state-of-the-art facility promotes the advancement of surgical skills through: 

  • Hands-on skills stations
  • Box trainers
  • Laparoscopic training
  • Ultrasound training
  • Wet and dry lab work
  • Cadaver and specimen work
  • Virtual reality training for real-time, tactile feedback and performance data 

The CSE maintains an extensive inventory of equipment and supplies to meet the needs of a wide variety of simulation modalities.  We are happy to assist with obtaining additional equipment or supplies as needed for your specific training or simulation.

The Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) recognizes Loyola's Advanced Procedure Education Center as an official Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) Test Center.  To register for the FLS exam, please go to https://www.flsprogram.org/testing-information/.
