The Women & Leadership Archives (WLA) is open to the public for research. Appointments are not required, but feel free to contact us if you have questions while planning your visit. Phone and email inquiries are also welcomed.

Visits outside of our normal scheduled hours may be arranged for researchers, such as History Fair participants, who would otherwise be unable to visit the archives during normal business hours. Please contact the Director at nfreeman1@luc.edu for more information and to arrange a special visit.

Unexpected closings or changes in our hours will be posted on our Facebook page.

Our Door:

If the door to the reading room is closed and locked during business hours, visitors can use the intercom system next to the door to contact the staff.

Directions:

The Women and Leadership Archives is located together with the Gannon Center for Women and Leadership in Piper Hall at Loyola University Chicago’s Lakeshore Campus, 970 N Sheridan Rd. Click here to view a PDF version of the following Directions‌. Please contact the WLA for additional directions.

Public Transportation:

The Women and Leadership Archives is easily accessible by the CTA Red Line by getting off at either the Granville or the Loyola stop. The cost is $2.50. The WLA is also easily accessibly by the 147 or 151 bus routes, the cost of which is $2.25.

Parking:

Proceed through the main entrance of campus towards the parking structure located on Sheridan road. The cost to park in the parking structure is $7.

Driving Directions:

The Women and Leadership Archives is located at 970 W. Sheridan Road, Chicago, IL 60660.

From the North: Follow Sheridan Road south to the campus entrance. Note that at the intersection of Sheridan, Broadway and Devon, Sheridan continues to the left. Make sure you turn left at this intersection, go under the “L” tracks, and the main entrance to campus is at the second light on the left. Piper Hall is located on the lakefront, just east of the main entrance to campus.

From the West and I-94: Take I-94 East to Touhy Avenue. Go east on Touhy to Sheridan Road. Turn right (south) on Sheridan Road and continue south to Loyola. Note that at the intersection of Sheridan, Broadway and Devon, Sheridan continues to the left. Make sure you turn left at this intersection, go under the “L” tracks, and the main entrance to campus is at the second light on the left. Piper Hall is located on the lakefront, just east of the main entrance to campus.

From the South: Take Lake Shore Drive north and follow it until it ends at Sheridan Road. Turn right (north) onto Sheridan Road and proceed about one mile to Loyola. Piper Hall is located right as Sheridan road curves to the West.

Accessibility:

If you require the use of the elevator to reach the third floor reading room, please contact the WLA before or upon your arrival. A staff member will gladly come unlock the entrance to the elevator on the first floor.
