- Encourages students to explore their identity as a workplace leader
- Gives them significant opportunities to turn into pathways for success
- Provides opportunities for meaningful work and intentional reflection
Professional Identity & Development
All SCPS students will take CPST 201 Professional Identity and Development within their first year of studies. This course engages students in exploration of their self-perception and the ways in which they are perceived by others, especially the workplace. The course continues to consider both the development of personal goals and consistent feedback for positive change.
Students will develop a professional identity profile and define a personal set of goals in addition to starting a portfolio assignment that they will continue to work on throughout their time at Loyola, adding portfolio level work completed in other courses.
Career Development Center
The Career Development Center serves all Loyola students and alumni as a source for career assessment, career education and assistance with their job search.
Brigette Petersen serves as the Career Development Center’s liaison for SCPS and works with SCPS staff to host a number of events and opportunities for students and alumni through the year. Brigette is also available and frequently meets with SCPS students to address the specific needs of working learners in professional transition.
The Internship Experience
The Internship Experience is your opportunity to explore a new work environment. Use this three credit course to experience your target career and to network within that work world.
This opportunity allows you to broaden your work and experiential base, spending approximately 8 hours a week interning with your chosen company, institution, nonprofit, small business or other professional setting. You are encouraged to use this course as a resume builder and as an open opportunity to explore your dream job.
We at SCPS understand the time-commitment of our adult students and encourage virtual internships that can fit your busy schedules.
*Please note that the internship course is offered to degree seeking students only.
