Doctoral Career Community
Career Services supports doctoral students and postdocs in navigating both academic and non-academic career paths through tailored advising, resources, and programming. We help students prepare for roles like research or teaching faculty while also building the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in industry, government, and non-profit sectors. Whether exploring tenure-track positions or alternative career options, we guide Ph.D students and postdocs in aligning their goals with meaningful professional outcomes.
Sample Careers: Depending on the field, doctoral students and postdocs pursue careers in academia as faculty members or higher education administrators. In industry, common roles include consultants, research scientists, UX and marketing researchers, policy analysts, instructional designers, data scientists, software engineers, and bioinformatics specialists. Also, many Ph.Ds in the Humanities and Social Sciences find fulfilling careers in publishing, museum positions, and non-profit work.
