Employer FAQs

Handshake FAQs

What is Handshake?

Handshake is an all-in-one early talent recruiting platform connecting employers to 12M+ students and alumni across 90% of educational institutions in the US. Handshake connects employers with thousands of Loyola University Chicago students and alumni who have active Handshake accounts.

What are the benefits of using Handshake?

When you create a Handshake employer account and connect it with Loyola, posting positions and registering for our career fairs becomes seamless. Handshake enables you to post positions, register for LUC career fairs, schedule on-campus interviews and post empoyer-sponsored events  - all in one platform.

By joining Handshake and following Loyola University Chicago, you will receive email announcements and instructions for relevant career events/fairs. Visit the Employer Handshake Help Center for additional information.

Can students apply directly to my organization?

Yes! In the job posting, under application instructions, please indicate how to apply. Students can apply via the external link that you provide or through the Handshake platform.

Will I be able to view student resumes?

When a student applies for a position that requires a resume submission, the employer/recruiter will receive the resume and any other application materials that were requested when the position was posted in Handshake. This can include a cover letter, transcripts, writing sample, etc. The employer can also direct students to an external application site, if preferred.

Can I post childcare or domestic care positions on Handshake?

While we use Handshake as our Career Management Platform, we have found that Handshake is not the best place for students to access these sorts of jobs. If you are not a registered business and have an independent job posting to share (i.e. babysitter, tutor, dog-walker, etc),we recommend posting the position to external platforms our students access, such as QuadJobsUrban Sitter, and/or Loyola University Babysitting Facebook Group. These sites are where our students seek independently hosted employment.

Where can I learn about LUC Career Fairs?

Career Services sponsors the Fall Job, Internship & Service Fair and a number of industry-specific fairs including Business, STEM, Marketing/Communication, Healthcare and Social Work.

Participating in career fairs provides a unique opportunity to meet directly and talk with a diverse group of prospective candidates, collect resumes, and more importantly, create personal connections that do not exist when only reviewing a resume.  Check out our list of fairs on Handshake or at Career Fairs and Events.

Can I set up an Information Table/Session on campus?

Employers can reserve an information table/session during the weekdays on both the Lake Shore and Water Tower campus. Space is available on a first-come, first-serve basis and based on career center approval. Please visit Handshake to schedule a session or event.

Where can I find Loyola student organization descriptions and contact information?

Student organizations are an excellent way to make a connection with Loyola students for recruiting purposes. Many employers find connecting with student organizations on campus to be an easy and effective way to increase brand-recognition and to identify potential candidates.

Check out the many diverse student organizations at Loyola. If you have an interest in a particular organization, you can contact them directly, or let us know and we can assist you in making the connection.

How is an on-campus recruiting schedule set up once I post my position?

To reserve a date, log-in to Handshake, choose Loyola University Chicago under 'campus' and then 'Request Interview Schedule.' Follow the prompts. You must request a schedule for each job and/or internship posting. A staff person from Career Services will review your request.

What are the steps for setting up and executing on-campus interviewing?

Check out Handshake's detailed help section related to all OCI questions. If you still have questions, our team will be happy to assist. Please contact us at 773.508.7716.

How can I view the schedule for my OCI?

Log in to Handshake and click “Interviews", review the schedule on your dashboard.

How do academic internships work?
