School of Law and Arrupe College launch Pathway to Law Fellowship program

Loyola University Chicago’s School of Law and Arrupe College are now partnering to offer a unique opportunity for Arrupe students to explore the benefits of attending law school.

Through this collaboration, each semester, a cohort of up to 10 Arrupe freshmen and sophomores participates in a mentorship program called Pathway to Law Fellowship at the School of Law, led by Assistant Dean for JD Admission and Scholarship Maya Crim. Through weekly sessions at the School of Law, Arrupe Law Fellows learn about law school admissions, best practices to prepare for applying, potential career paths in law, and other topics. School of Law students teach some sessions, further strengthening the networks between Arrupe and School of Law communities.

Arrupe College students can participate in a mentorship program called Pathway to Law Fellowship at the School of Law. Curt and Linda Rodin Professor of Law and Social Justice Blanche Bong Cook will teach criminal law to second-year Arrupe students.

As part of this Arrupe/Law pathway, Curt and Linda Rodin Professor of Law and Social Justice Blanche Bong Cook will teach criminal law to second-year Arrupe students. Cook is a former assistant United States attorney with the Department of Justice, where she specialized in large-scale drug and sex-trafficking prosecutions. As a federal prosecutor, she briefed and/or argued more than 44 federal appeals.

“The study of law is about opportunity,” says Cook. “These are students who yearn for a chance. How fortunate are we to make that opportunity real.”

Arrupe College Dean Fr. Tom Neitzke, S.J., agrees. “I am so grateful that Dean Michèle Alexandre invited Arrupe to partner with the law school,” he says. “This innovative partnership gives our students access to endless opportunities within the School of Law.”
