Examen: Love

SUMMARY: This Examen helps us to recognize God's constant and immense love for us individually in our daily lives. How can we recognize how God fills up our cup with such a great love to the point of overflowing?

PRESENTER: Vivian Pearson, Student Worker, Campus Ministry

Transcript

Welcome to this examen on love. My name is Vivian Pearson, a junior liturgical music major at Loyola. If you’re listening to this during the day, we will reflect on yesterday. If you’re listening to this in the evening, we’ll reflect on today.

Let’s begin by taking a few, deep breaths. If you feel comfortable, I invite you to close your eyes. Continue to settle into your space as we continue on with this examen. Imagine for a moment a cup- this could be made of any material in any shape. What does it look like? Try to look at this cup from all different angles. Now imagine this cup filled to the brim, about to overflow. This cup measures God’s unconditional, constant, and deep love for you. Take a few moments to reflect on what it means for your cup to be filled with love. In what type of experiences do you notice God’s love for you? How does God fill your cup with love?

I encourage you now to become aware of how God showed you His love today. Let’s begin when you first woke up. How was your morning? Did you feel rushed or calm? Where was God? Continue to move through your morning into the afternoon. What did you do? How was God present in your afternoon? Let’s explore the evening. Just observe what happened, take it all in, and notice how God was moving.

Now that we have completed the day, take another deep breath. Check in on your cup- is it full? Take some time to find one or two main ways you have felt the love of God in your day. Bring these to God with gratitude that His love is always present in our daily lives. I encourage you to savor what it means to be loved by God- how does this make you feel? Is there anything else that you would like to say to God?

Take another deep breath and ask for the grace to notice and savor God’s immense love for you each day.

Thank you for joining me in this Examen. May God’s peace be with you.
