SUMMARY: Dr. A. believes in empowering students to do their very best in the classroom and in life. This belief led to the development of her podcast Xpress Your Best, currently in its third season. The Xpress Your Best Podcast showcases students in higher education and trade schools who provide words of wisdom for their peers.

Biography
Dr. Jennifer Armstrong is a Clinical Associate Professor of Communication at Arrupe College at Loyola University, Chicago. Dr. A as she is known by her students, recently celebrated her 7-year anniversary at Arrupe. Dr. A teaches courses in Public Speaking and Communication and New Media and provides academic advisement for first year students. In addition, Dr. A. has participated on numerous committees primarily focusing on student engagement. This year Dr. A acted as the Program Director for Bridging the Divide, a partnership with the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics. This program provides Arrupe students with a platform to share varying perspectives as they engage with other students from urban and rural areas across the country. Dr. A. collaborated with the Dean of Students to prepare students for the newly developed two-day conference that took place on the U of C campus. Dr. A has previously acted as advisor for the Black Men for Success and currently for Sister Girl Empowerment. Dr. A. believes in empowering students to do their very best in the classroom and in life. This belief led to the development of her podcast Xpress Your Best, currently in its third season. The Xpress Your Best Podcast showcases students in higher education and trade schools. Students are invited to discuss the highs and lows of their experience but most importantly they provide words of wisdom for their peers. Every student who has been on the show is amazing, not because of their academic achievement but because they are simply smart, beautiful individuals. They deserve to be heard and Dr. A is happy to provide the platform.
Dr. A mentors young people both in her professional and private life. She serves on the JMD Angels Scholarship committee to assist in providing scholarships for students in the Chicagoland area and commits to working with the GGG scholarship foundation annually.
In her spare time, Dr. A loves to engage in fitness activities such as weightlifting, swimming, and walking. She also enjoys spending time with family and friends.
Projects:
- As Chair of the Speakers Series I am collaborating with another university to bring the Kemba Smith film to our campus. This is the story of astounding resilience. A young woman at Hampton University found herself in a predicament that would take away 24 years of her life. Through the efforts of her parents and community she was given a chance for a new beginning.
- Plans to submit a proposal to share student outcomes from the 2024 Bridging the Divide Conference
- Recruitment of students who would like to participate in the NPR College Podcast challenge for a chance to win a monetary award.
- Planning and Recruitment of students to attend the Bridging the Divide Conference in the Spring.
- ALWAYS looking for student who would like to be a part of the Xpress Your Best Podcast.
