Session Dates

Start planning now to study at Loyola University Chicago in Summer 2016!

*Early Summer Session May 23 - June 17 (four weeks)
(Only for specialized courses)
Summer Session A May 23 - July 1 (six weeks)
Summer Session B July 5- August 12(six weeks)
Summer Session C June 6 - July 29 (eight weeks)
*Please note that we offer only a few specialized courses during the Early Session.

New Loyola Students

Visiting Students and Prospective Undergraduates
Visiting students and prospective undergraduates are required to apply to Loyola prior to registration for Summer Sessions. The Summer Sessions application for visiting students will be available in early December, 2015.

Admitted Transfer Students for Fall 2016
Admitted transfer students interested in enrolling in summer courses should contact Undergraduate Admissions for more information. Please call 800-262-2373 or visit Undergraduate Admissions.

Graduate and Professional Students
Prospective students who would like more information about graduate or professional summer study should complete our online request form.

Continuing Loyola Students

Current Loyola students are not required to complete an application for Summer Sessions.

Number of Credit Hours Permitted

Undergraduate students may enroll up to eight credit hours at any one time. (Therefore, students should note that some sessions overlap in dates and consider this registration carefully in planning summer schedules.) A current Loyola University student who wishes to apply for an exception to this rule should contact the dean of his or her school.  Visiting students should contact the Dean's Office, College of Arts & Sciences: 773-508-3500.

Academic Calendar 2016

The Academic Calendar highlights important dates that students should know, including:

  • Late registration for each session
  • Withdrawing from class without grade penalties
  • Make-up classes due to major holidays

Please refer to this calendar, which is important to your academic status, when adding and dropping courses. Also note that the Academic Calendar is independent from the Bursar Withdrawal Calendar. Provided below is a quick view of the Summer 2016 Academic calendar:

Session C
  June 6 SESSION BEGINS
  June 6-7 Late registration (fee applies), late registration ends at midnight.
  June 7 Last day to drop a course without a grade of "W."
  June 10 Last day to convert from credit to audit and to request pass/no pass option.
  July 4 NO CLASSES: Independence Day.
  July 8 Makeup day for Independence Day.
  July 15 Last day to withdraw from session without a penalty grade of "WF."
  July 29 Session ends.

BURSAR CALENDAR

Dropping, adding, or withdrawing from classes directly impacts your financial account depending upon when you take action. Before you make a decision, please review the registration responsibility below or review the withdrawal information on the Office of the Bursar website.

By registering for classes, you accept responsibility for paying all tuition and other fees associated with these classes.

If your academic plans change, you must take action to withdraw from your classes. Failure to attend class does not result in an automatic withdrawal or removal of charges from your student account.

You may withdraw from courses using LOCUS.
