Hello! My name is Christopher Nelson, and I'm here to tell you about my Arrupe College experience.
How I chose my degree:
To me the human mind and the concept or certain theories and how they can be applied to people in how they do things and why people do things interest me so much that a career in that felt unavoidable to me. Also connecting that to my interest in therapy and wanting to actively help the community as a social worker and bringing issues to the light.
What professor should a new student absolutely take a class with and why?
Prof. Tarantino. His philosophy classes help challenge and introduce you to different ideas of morality in addition to also incorporating many different authors who have unique views and challenges on how society is structured and works.
What has been your most challenging class and how did it change you?
The most challenging class for me was statistics. I say it past tense as it challenged me to lose my stubbornness in asking for help and actively challenging my knowledge of math-based courses and in my head forcing me out of my mindset that I had (that I wasn't good in math). It was never that I wasn't good in math, I just never applied myself to my full ability.
Where is your favorite place on Loyola's campus and why?
My favorite place are the lounge areas in Baumhart Hall, it's a good place to get work done for me when their distractions in my dorm and good place to just have some alone time when there's people everywhere.
What's the best thing you've done since coming to Arrupe?
The best thing I've done since coming to Arrupe was the Arrupe career fellowship. In addition to giving me the opportunity to step into an internship/workspace, it's challenged me to step out of my comfortability and given me the confidence to vouch and speak up for opportunities that might benefit me long term.
