Federal Work-Study and Student Employment

Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a federal grant awarded to qualifying students as a part of their Financial Aid Package. It is earned by working a job designated as a FWS position, which can be either on campus or through Loyola’s community-based work-study program. With this program, Loyola partners with non-profit organizations who host FWS positions, allowing students to have internship-like experience which leaves them feeling a sense of real contribution to the community. You can review more detailed information about FWS and Student Employment Guide to learn more.

How Do I Find FWS Jobs?

Being eligible for FWS does not guarantee you will have a work-study job. You must search, apply for, and be offered a position to receive these funds, which are paid directly to students and can be used at your discretion. If you are eligible for FWS, you can search and apply for positions on Handshake. On the jobs page, you can select “All Filters” and then “Work Study” to see all available work-study positions. Some community-based partners exclusively hire Arrupe students for their work-study positions; these opportunities will always be promoted through the Career Corner newsletter.

If I’m Not Eligible for FWS, Can I Still Work On Campus?

Yes! Not all on-campus jobs require FWS eligibility. You can search and apply for on-campus positions throughout Loyola on Handshake. If you don’t have FWS eligibility, then you will only see positions that don’t require this.

Additionally, Arrupe College hires students to work in a variety of positions, more information about these opportunities will be shared when roles are available.

  • Office of Student Services Student Worker
  • Admissions Office Student Worker
  • Math, Writing, and Business Fellows
  • Orientation Leaders
  • ACUNI 101 Peer Instructors

What If I Still Have Questions About FWS and Student Employment?

If you have questions about your Financial Aid Package or FWS award, contact Viviana Arellano, Arrupe’s financial aid counselor, at varellano1@luc.edu.
