Major: A.A. in Business Administration
High School: Cristo Rey Jesuit High School
Involvements: Arrupe Business Society (ABS) and Math Fellows

Hello! My name is Julio Cruz. I'm here to tell you about my Arrupe College experience.

How I chose my degree:
I decided to pursue an sssociates in Business Administration because it is the first step for me to be involved in the business world. My goal is to achieve a Bachelors in Finance to help my Hispanic community. Growing up in Mexican household financially was difficult because there were times where money was too short. There weren’t any resources to help us like there is for other ethnic groups. We need more Hispanics in the finance world that know struggles our community face so we can help in a way succeed as a whole. Pursuing an Associates in Business Administration is the first step for me to achieve that goal.

My plans after graduation:
Starting in the fall I would be attending Loyola University here in Chicago to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and with a minor in Spanish. Starting in September I will be starting an internship at Grant Thornton working in a job rotational setting with different departments like advisory and audit.

Professor a new student should absolutely take a class with:
As a Spanish speaker I really enjoyed taking Person and Society in Spanish with . Talking about different philosophers and studying different texts was something I enjoyed a lot. She made the class where we can relate and connect to readings in our ways which later enables us to see what kind of person we want to be. Working as a class to understand the material and analyzing the text was also something I enjoyed. Also, being able to be in an environment where you feel comfortable speaking and being understood help me to enjoy the class even more than I already had liked.

Class I never expected to love:
Attending Arrupe I learned that I really enjoyed math. The whole concept of being able to work on problems and achieving an answer at the end fascinates me. The best feeling is when you are working with a problem that takes a lot of process and thinking; and you calculate an answer at the end, this feeling is one of a kind. I felt like this the most taking Pre-Calculus II, which is the Trigonometry segment of Pre-Calculus, with . She made the class engaging with the students. She organized it in a way where we work as a team with fellow students to try and solve trigonometric problem sets. I felt that the whole class, and with Prof Nissan, worked together to not leave no one left behind. When there was something a class mate didn’t get, we all made sure to work as team to get everyone understand. Even if it was someone we didn’t speak with, as a class we all made sure we were going to help that individual understand the material. I'm not saying this as Math Fellow but as an Arrupe Student. The environment Prof. Nissan created exceeded my expectations a lot.

Favorite spot on campus:
My favorite place on campus is the Math Fellows room. I really enjoyed being there because I was able to do my homework and be with fellow classmates to look for strategies to try and complete assignments. The whole process of working as a team fascinated me.

Best thing I've done since coming to Arrupe:
The best thing by far has been being a Math Fellow. I come to meet a lot of people, I have develop new skills, develop relationships, and to being part of the Arrupe community, which was something at I didn’t think I would have been part of.

Some surprisingly cool things about Arrupe:
One cool thing that comes to my mind is The Market at Arrupe College. It’s a mini market on the 2nd floor where there are goods and accessories. For example, there is milk, eggs, meats, cans, lightbulbs, soaps, shampoos, deodorants, etc. This is something free to all students and everyone is welcome to grave anything they need.
