Founder and Chair of the Board, SCC Empowerment Collective

Anmin Hui

Anmin Hui is a social entrepreneur, philanthropist, and researcher. In 2021, she founded a non-profit organization, Student-led City Communities Empowerment Collective (SCC Em. Co.). The vision of SCC Em. Co. is to empower youth to discover and display the beauty and strength of their communities. SCC Em. Co. received its official 501(c)3 status in 2022. The team is currently developing an APP that includes a research tool kit section that makes relevant research available for people in the community and a youth showcase section of the map of Chicago for youth to post and present their own narratives. The organization plans to kick off its comprehensive summer program in the Bronzeville community in the next two years and ultimately establish community research centers with partnering communities.

Prior to starting SCC. Em. Co., Anmin conducted research at the University of Chicago at the Beyond Schools Lab and the Chicago Center for Violence Prevention. Additionally, she has presented research at the American Educational Research Association’s annual national meeting. Her research interests include education, social inequality, race, and identity formation.

In addition, Anmin has a myriad of international experiences. She developed a program and the corresponding curriculum for the New Hope Refugee Ministry in Serpong, Indonesia. In Dalian, China, she lectured at Dalian Jia’de English School for a semester. She also consulted for a medical anthropology research project in Shanghai, China. While in college, she conducted independent ethnographic research in Soweto, South Africa, where she was supported by a competitive research award.

Anmin holds an M.A. in Social Work from the University of Chicago and a B.A. in Anthropology from Wheaton College, IL.
