Nona Storr

After graduating Loyola University Chicago with an MA in Public History and finishing a MLIS from University of South Florida which she pursued concurrently, Nona Storr spent 2 years working in the fields of archive management and librarianship before perusing a PhD in American History from George Mason University. One of the reasons GMU appealed to Nona was because that program's focus on new media lined up so beautifully with public history sensibilities that were honed while she attended Loyola. It was because of Nona's LUC training in oral history that she chose to use oral history as path of discovery for her dissertation and other projects.

Using oral histories to enrich the narrative, Nona wrote her dissertation on the 1942 riot in the Bahamas. Additionally, she co-edited and published a collection of oral histories that she and her colleagues conducted with residents of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

Nona is currently an adjunct professor at George Mason University where her husband is in the economics department. Nona still has a very active research agenda. She also enjoys spending a lot of time with her 4 year old daughter Winnie.
