Interfaith and Multifaith Initiatives
We are an interreligious and multi-religious community. Rooted in our Catholic identity, we respect and value the diversity of religious traditions and spiritual expression of our students, faculty and staff.
The Second Vatican Council called on all Catholics to “acknowledge, preserve and promote the spiritual and moral goods found in other religions, and the values in their society and culture,” as a way to “join hands with them to work towards a world of peace, liberty, social justice and moral values.” With this teaching in mind, and drawing upon the richness of our experience as a diverse community, we seek to provide opportunities to learn, dialogue, and pray together across traditions in partnership with student interest groups, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and Student Life.
The Gathering Room (Stritch School of Medicine 250) is available for small group conversation, prayer and worship. Many of our student religious groups meet here regularly. For example, Catholic students pray the rosary, Christian students host Bible study, Muslim students pray at midday, and Hindu students pray weekly. Please visit the Ministry Office to reserve this space. Additionally, a small space is available in the Ministry Center (Stritch School of Medicine, room 270) for private prayer, meditation, or spiritual direction sessions.

Interfaith Literacy Series
Inspired by student interest and leadership, we partner with student groups to create and promote presentations about the religious traditions represented in our Loyola HSC community, including information that will be helpful in the context of patient care.

Student Interest Groups
Christian Medical and Dental Association
The Christian Medical and Dental Association (CMDA) fosters spiritual growth, fellowship, and service. CMDA hosts Bible studies, small groups, praise and worship music gatherings, and an annual retreat.
The Jewish Student Association (JSA) provides educational, cultural and social programs for the Loyola community. JSA organizes various events such as Shabbat dinners and tables in the Atrium for various Jewish holidays.
Latino Medical Student Association
The Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) provides service opportunities, mentorship, and education to advocate and celebrate the health of the Latinx community. Ministry has partnered with LMSA to build an ofrenda or altar to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead).
MAGIS (Medical Association Guided by Ignatian Spirituality) is a student group serving as a home for Catholic students, but is open to all regardless of faith tradition. MAGIS hosts events such as small group reflections or Examens, shared Sunday Mass and brunch, and service opportunities.
Muslim Medical Student Association
The Muslim Medical Student Association (MMSA) works to celebrate Islamic holidays and cultural practices in ways that are open to all students. They also coordinate periodic opporutnities for acts of solidarity or times of common prayer, including prayer together on some Fridays.
South Asian Medical Student Association
In recent years, SAMSA has coordinated events within the Muslim and Hindu traditions such as an Eid dinner and Diwali dinner. Muslim students gather to pray on various Friday afternoons in the Gathering Room.
