Spiritual Companionship and Direction

Ministry staff are available by appointment or drop-in to offer guidance in exploring your relationship with God, spiritual movements and questions. Please visit our Spiritual Direction page for more information about spiritual direction and for a list of current directors at the Health Sciences Campus.

Accelerated Internship in Spiritual Direction

The program serves to train spiritual directors in the Health Sciences Division so that they are available to offer spiritual direction for those seeking it on our campus. The Accelerated Program runs annually from January – November.

The internship presumes that interns already have a regular habit of prayer and are in spiritual direction themselves. At some point, participants are encouraged to make the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius Loyola (either as a 30-day retreat or over 9 months)

Participants commit to monthly training sessions (except May, June, July), assigned readings, meeting with a directee, as well as individual and group supervision.

Contact Dave De Marco, SJ, MD for more information.

Spiritual Excercises in Everyday Life Retreat

The Spiritual Exercises are an unfolding series of prayers, meditations, and reflections compiled by St. Ignatius of Loyola from his own personal spiritual experience and that of others to whom he listened. The process of the Spiritual Exercises respects the uniqueness of each person and leads participants to a deeper relationship with God and others.

The Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life (SEEL) Retreat includes daily prayer, weekly sessions with a spiritual director, and regular prayer experiences as a SEEL community.

Inner-mission Employee Retreat

The Inner-Mission Employee Retreat seeks to assist employees in exploring, discerning, and affirming a sense of their own personal mission and its connection to the mission of Loyola University. This one-night retreat is offered once each winter and summer and invites each participant to take the time to reflect on their purpose and meaning.

Ignatian Contemplation Retreat

The Ignatian Contemplation Retreat, offered each May, is a two-night retreat offering time for quiet and spiritual renewal as an alternative to the usual frenzied pace of life. The first day focuses on the Principle and Foundation of St. Ignatius’ Spiritual Exercises, while the second day provides a day of reflection and prayer in silence. Spiritual directors are available to accompany and support participants throughout this retreat.
