St. Luke's Week

The festivities and awards of this week are named for Saint Luke, one of the four Gospel writers of the Christian New Testament. It is believed that St. Luke was a physician, or the equivalent of his time. He is often depicted holding a Caduceus. In the Catholic tradition, he has been named the Patron Saint of Physicians – a saint of the church who holds a special place in the prayer life of many Catholic physicians, and who can provide inspiration and intercession to our Creator for the specific needs of doctors, residents, and medical students. As a Catholic Medical School, his Feast Day, October 18 –  conveniently located in the middle of Fall Semester! – provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the profession and vocational call to medicine, to bring us together in community, and to reflect on our call to service.
