New Student Convocation

New Student Convocation is an annual tradition where all new students (first-year and transfer) officially begin their academic careers at Loyola University Chicago. Students are welcomed to the university community by the President, Provost, faculty, staff, student leaders, and the author that year's Rambler Read. New Student Convocation is a celebration of university life and the academic traditions of Loyola. All new students attend this important event as part of Welcome Week.

New Student Convocation traditionally consists of three parts:

  • Walk and Welcome Tunnel: a processional of new students from East Quad to Gentile Arena
  • New Student Convocation: new students hear from the President and the author of the Rambler Read
  • Rambler Read Discussions: small group conversations led by faculty, staff, and student leaders
