1935
Loyola School of Nursing was founded with Sister Helen Jarrell as its first dean.
1938
A public health nursing program was established at the Medical School.
1941
Public health nursing program broadened to give a B.S. in Public Health Nursing.
1948
The school reorganized, uniting the departments of Nursing, Nursing Education, and Public Health Nursing.
1955
The basic and general nursing programs received full accreditation from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Service.
1964
First students were accepted into Loyola’s graduate nursing program.
1980
The school was renamed the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, in recognition of a generous gift from Marcella Niehoff, a local businesswoman.
1988
PhD in Nursing program established
2009
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program established.
2025
School celebrates its 90th anniversary and welcomes its largest-ever BSN class
2028
New nursing-sciences building scheduled to open.
