Professor O’Rourke chosen to edit NLN’s training program

Simulation Innovation Resource Center's REIMAGINED online courses updated
Jenny O’Rourke, PhD, APRN, an associate professor at Loyola University Chicago Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, recently served as one of two editors for the National League for Nursing’s (NLN) Simulation Innovation Resource Center’s (SIRC) update of its simulation training program. O’Rourke began work on the extensive project in October of 2021 through its completion with the courses going live on May 1 of this year.
“This was multiple project management at its finest,” she said
The NLN is a national organization for nurse faculty, schools of nursing, and leaders in nurse education, offering faculty development, networking opportunities, testing services, nursing research grants, and public policy initiatives to more than 40,000 individual and 1,200 education and associate members. The new Reimagined series of online courses – Foundation and Deeper Dive – have been designed to provide a scaffold approach for nurse educators to achieve the professional development needed to curate the skills that enhance the learning experience of nursing simulation.
The 11 SIRC courses – seven Foundation and four Deeper Dives – were developed from the results of focus groups, surveys, and an assessment of current needs in simulation education. The interactive Foundation courses are delivered asynchronously, while the Deeper Dives feature live online courses. Continuing education credits are awarded upon successful completion of all courses.
O’Rourke received her PhD in Nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) in 2012 and served as a clinical assistant professor and Director of Simulation at UIC prior to joining Loyola. Her teaching and scholarship interests include nursing education and simulation. Since 2017, she has been the Project Director for a Health Research and Services Administration grant totaling more than $4.3 million in funding.
