The Residency Requirement

All full-time first-year and second-year students are required to live in Loyola University Chicago Residence Life housing and have an all-access meal plan. Typically, this requirement requires four semesters of residency in Loyola's residence halls (not including summer terms). This residency requirement is published in the Undergraduate Bulletin of Information, on the University website, and in the annual Community Standards for Loyola University Chicago students.  To learn more about the requirement or get information on the exemption process please visit our Residency Requirement page.

Assignments Communication Timeline + Roommate Requests

Summer Residence Life Timeline for Incoming First Year Students

  • May 1- Priority Deadline to submit the Housing Application.
  • Early/Mid June- First round of assignments sent to LUC email accounts. This will include your hall and room type
  • Mid July- Deadline to submit a roommate request. (a specific due date will be included on the form)
  • Late July- Final assignment including roommate, room number, move-in date and time sent to LUC email accounts.
  • Late August- Move-In! You can find detailed information on our Move-In Page of what to expect when you arrive to campus.

Roommate Requests

If you requested a specific roommate or roommates on your housing application and the request was mutual, we will do our best to place you together. We will confirm mutual roommate requests in your initial assignment email in early to mid-June.

After initial assignments have been communicated, there will be a roommate request form. Students may request roommates until mid-July (a specific due date will be included on the form), provided that the requested roommate(s) is/are assigned to the same building/room type and Learning Community (if applicable).

During orientation, if you meet someone else who is assigned to the same building/room type that you would like to live with, you can submit a Roommate Request form and we will reassign you together. We are unable to honor non-mutual/incomplete roommate requests, requests to room with someone in a different building/room type, or requests to change building/room type.

Roommate Requests must be mutual (all students involved must agree)

Room Change Requests

All assignments are considered permanent. If you would like to request a room change, please contact our office to be added to our room change waitlist. Due to limited availability, room change requests cannot be guaranteed.

Housing Assignments + iPlan

Billing
Fall charges for housing and meal plans are added to student accounts for the July eBill, which is published on July 15th.  If students accept a room change or opt to change their meal plan after this date, their charges will be updated on their account summary in LOCUS. eBills only run once per month and do not update with changes.

iPlan (installment plans)
Enrolling in an iPlan allows you to pay for tuition, housing and other fees over a 9 or 12 month period. More information about enrolling in an iPlan can be found on Office of the Bursar's site. If you've already created an iPlan and indicated a different building/room type than the one to which you were assigned or have changed your meal plan, be sure to log in and update your iPlan.

Meal Plan Change Request

All First-Year and Second-Year students are required to have an All Access Meal Plan, but you may choose between a 5-Day All Access Plan (Monday-Friday) and a 7-Day All Access Plan (Monday-Sunday). For more information about meal plan options, click here.

Your initial assignment will include the meal plan that you selected on your application, but meal plan change requests will be accepted until early September.

Triple Rooms

In order to accommodate all first year students living in our residence halls, our room types include triple occupancy units. This allows more Loyola students to live on campus and make Loyola home. Students assigned to these spaces can expect to enjoy the same benefits and experiences as any residential student.

General Triple Information
  • Rooms are able to accommodate the number of students assigned
  • Residents in triples receive a complete furniture set
    • Each student will receive 1 desk, 1 chair, 1 dresser, and 1 twin XL bed
    • Students will share the closets or wardrobes in the space
  • The furniture in a triple will be arranged to optimize the amount of space in a room
    • Two of the beds in the room will be bunked, and one bed will be high lofted
    • The high loft will be provided at no additional cost. Additional high lofts will not easily fit in the room, and will not be available to request
  • Residents may rearrange furniture in a way that is comfortable for all roommates (University-provided furniture must remain in room)
  • Typically, triple housing assignments are not based on application date but rather to accommodate roommate/building requests
