Affordability
Facilitating a high-quality education
The School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) at Loyola University Chicago understands the cost of higher education stimulates anxiety in many adult learners and, in some cases, even hinders them from returning to the classroom. SCPS, however, aims to remove as many financial obstacles as possible to make a Loyola education affordable and accessible.
Through a combination of financial aid, scholarships, community partnerships, and knowledge-based credit, SCPS creates opportunities for students to pursue their academic goals free of economic barriers. The school’s earnest commitment to its students’ financial well-being eases a frequent pain point for students, enables them to focus on their studies, and powers their post-SCPS lives.
Investing in the ambitious
Pursuing a career shift from law enforcement to medicine sparked enough anxiety in Danessa Bredicean (BA ’25). The challenge of financing the necessary education at SCPS to facilitate that change ignited even more stress.
SCPS stepped in to help.
As a recipient of the SCPS Fellows Scholar Award, Bredicean gained a valuable boost to calm her nerves and embolden her quest for a bachelor’s degree in applied psychology. One of the largest scholarships offered at SCPS, the Fellows program matches the contributions of a corporate tuition assistance program up to $5,250.
“Having the Fellows scholarship meant I wouldn’t need to burn myself out by working so much and could keep my focus on school,” Bredicean says.
Maintaining a swift pace to her studies while working full time as a police officer, Bredicean completed her studies in 2025 before turning her attention to an advanced degree and career in medicine, where she hopes to uplift lives and improve the human condition. She credits SCPS for strengthening her intellectual muscles, honing critical time management skills, and boosting her self-confidence.
“I feel like SCPS has given me a ladder to reach my goals, and they’re climbing along with me, encouraging me to keep moving up so I can achieve the dreams I have,” Bredicean says.
