Faculty Profiles - Chris Fulton
Encouraging a growth mindset
Chris Fulton,
Clinical Instructor of Information Technology Programs
In 2022, Chris Fulton brought his deep expertise in the IT field and past teaching experiences to the SCPS faculty ranks, excited to work with highly engaged adult students eager to gain market-relevant IT skills and explore new professional possibilities.
At SCPS, Fulton leads a variety of technical courses focused on coding and software development as well as the user experience. Often crossing paths with students multiple times throughout their SCPS journey, he promotes the importance of practice and reassures them that continued effort and instruction will breed competence, particularly when confronting new concepts and practicing new skills. His greatest joy is seeing students embrace “productive struggle,” grasping complex concepts through diligent exercise and becoming proficient in using those skills within their areas of interest.
With the IT industry quickly changing, fueled by fast advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), Fulton is developing a new course examining how IT professionals can strategically use various AI models in their day-to-day workflows. He is also working with SCPS colleagues to modify existing courses to reflect the IT industry’s evolution.
“I enjoy teaching technical concepts and seeing students become enthused and excited about what they have built and what they can build,” Fulton says.
