Alonzo Greene: Class of '22, Cannonball moment

A cannonball moment that changed his life...

Why did you chose Loyola?

I had heard great things from alumni and friends at my old high schools who were part of the Rambler family. I have seen them grow with their Loyola education and I was thrilled when I found out I was accepted.

What was your educational journey before coming to Loyola?

Before coming to Loyola University I was a graduate of MacCormac College with a 3.7 G.P.A. and a member of Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society. I completed a fast-track program which gave me my Associates Degree in eighteenth months instead of two years.

What cannonball moments have you had in your time here?

My cannonball moment was when I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and hospitalized in the middle of a semester. A month later, when I was discharged, I knew with absolute certainty that I couldn’t drop out. I had to finish. And I did!

What volunteer work have you done in your community?

I volunteer for The Ronald Macdonald House, specifically helping families deal with cancer. I also serve on the board of my daughter’s school, the Christian Cambridge Classical Academy.

What is your capstone project?

For my Capstone Project I served as the project manager between the Academy and Brown Sugar Bakery. My goal was to form a mentorship program to teach students financial literacy and entrepreneurship.

What advice can you give adult learners?

My advice for future adult learners would be to never give up; no matter how challenging it may be to complete your degree. Accomplish your educational goals even if you embark on this journey later than others. Loyola is here to help, support and lift you up!

If you would like to share your story as a current student or alum, please email it to scps@luc.eduWe would love to hear from you.
