Online Course Design
Instructors, we can help you in a variety of ways, including refining learning objectives, aligning course resources and assessments with learning outcomes, developing asynchronous course activities, creating authentic assessments, building online community and increasing engagement, checking resources for accessibility, ensuring that your course meets Quality Matters standards, and more!
Essentials of Online Teaching
This fully asynchronous, facilitated, self-paced course is required by LUC for all instructors new to teaching online in the School of Social Work. Course activities are designed to help instructors master the skills needed to conduct online courses effectively using the Learning Management System (LMS) and the SSW curriculum. Instructors who successfully complete the course earn a digital badge.
Learn MoreOngoing Faculty Support
Our team assists all faculty members – part-time, full-time, and teaching online or face-to-face – with using Loyola’s learning management system and course templates, resolving technology issues, and selecting appropriate digital tools for educational purposes. For online instructors, we also offer strategies for making synchronous sessions and asynchronous content more interactive and engaging. Throughout the year we offer other opportunities for further faculty learning, including workshops focused on specific issues or tools.
Quality Assurance
Our team assists faculty with assuring quality in all course offerings, using the standards articulated by Quality Matters (QM), a nationally-recognized, faculty-driven nonprofit organization. These standards emphasize peer review and continuous improvement for online and hybrid courses. Members of the School of Social Work Online Learning Team are QM-trained course reviewers and can guide instructors and program directors through the review process.

Asynchronous Resources
To support School of Social Work faculty and staff, the Online Learning Team maintains the School of Social Work Faculty Orientation and Resources site, available to all part-time and full-time instructors. The site provides comprehensive guidance on instructional modalities, Loyola's Learning Management System (LMS), online technologies, university resources, and information about the Community Immersion Program (CIP), among other topics. In addition, the site features a library of step-by-step how-to videos covering common processes and FAQ about the Loyola learning management system, Zoom, and other online technologies.
