Description: |
This elective focuses on the application of accumulated knowledge and skills from the broad medical school curriculum to the care of the surgical patient. It is NOT intended to cover material that should be mastered during the M3 clerkship or on M4 sub-internship rotations. The goals and objectives of the elective will be accomplished through didactic lectures, interactive small group sessions, a mock page exercise, and hands on activities in the Advanced Procedure Education Center and Walgreens Virtual Hospital. The students will spend half of each day participating in the lectures or small group sessions, and the other half either in a small group simulation session or in self-directed practice sessions to become competent in the technical skills objectives. 2022-2023 Dates: 3/13/2023 - 3/24/2023 |
Method of Evaluation: | Students will be evaluated based on participation in didactic, small group and skills sessions as well as their proficiency in the topics covered in the goals and objectives. They will be provided with mid-rotation feedback to improve their performance and summative feedback will be provided at the conclusion of the rotation. A final written examination will be administered at the conclusion of the elective to assess their comprehension of the medical knowledge objectives. They will be graded on a pass/fail basis as determined by the course director, Dr. Adam Kabaker. |
