Loyola University Chicago

Sustainability Committee

Background

This committee was formed to serve as the oversight and implementation of Loyola's Climate Action Plan and the sustainability aspects of our Strategic Plan. It also serves an important role connecting the various academic and operational units at Loyola that implement sustainability.

As sustainability has grown at Loyola, our ability to support sustainability projects has evolved. From a smaller group of concerned students, faculty and staff to the administration-level group on the current committee, we have the capacity to consider and advance projects from the modest and highly targeted to very large and multi-year initiatives. To date, this committee has considered and supported major sustainability projects including the Cycle & Recycle Center, GoSolar – onsite photovoltaic PPA, and the REAL Wind monitoring project. More information on project types and example projects can be found here

Some students may be interested in more modest projects. Please reach out to the appropriate student organizations on campus to find your role.

Loyola has various other sustainability-related committees that may be appropriate venues to discuss your ideas or concerns. Visit the Take Action page to see which groups are currently active and find your place to address sustainability at Loyola.
