Vice President, External Affairs, Comcast

Matthew leads Comcast’s civic engagement, community investment and government affairs portfolio for the company’s Greater Chicago Region. His work is focused initiatives that advance youth leadership development opportunities, encourage volunteerism and draw on access to technology to increase community vitality. Prior to Comcast, Matthew served as the founding President and CEO of the Illinois Science & Technology Coalition (ISTC), where he developed public-private partnerships to advance the Midwest’s profile and standing as a global center for innovation. Under his leadership, the ISTC helped attract more than $100 million for scientific research and commercialization activities in energy, life sciences, manufacturing and other sectors, established the Illinois Innovation Council, developed data.illinois.gov and launched the data-driven Illinois Innovation Index. Matthew is also the co-founder of the not-for-profit Energy Foundry, which manages a $22+ million evergreen fund focused on promising clean tech companies and ISEIF which funds innovative education, outreach, and research projects that help consumers embrace changes in the energy sector. He has also worked in the New York City Mayor’s Office of Operations, the United States Senate and the Office of the Governor, State of Illinois.  He is active in numerous civic organizations including 1871, the Economic Club of Chicago and the Bucktown Arts Fest. He earned an MPA from New York University and a BA from the University of Iowa.
