Prior to joining Loyola, Dr. Chan-Tin was an associate professor in the Computer Science department at Oklahoma State University. Dr. Chan-Tin received his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Minnesota and his B.A. in computer science and mathematics from Macalester College.
Dr. Chan-Tin's research focuses broadly on network security, distributed systems, privacy, and anonymity. How he tackles a research problem is to pick a widely-used system, hack it, and then fix it. His current research is inter-disciplinary: psychology of security, and Tor and related privacy issues such as website and webbrowser fingerprinting. His past research work includes network coordinate systems, peer-to-peer systems, Tor, authentication, and data analytics.
