Jasmine Lu
Assistant Professor
Dr. Jasmine Lu's research is explores how computing systems can center justice and sustainability. In particular, her work focuses on the issue of electronic waste and uses computational methods to explore how we can build tools to support a more circular computing ecosystem. She applies an interdisciplinary approach to research, drawing from research in human-computer interaction, sustainability studies, electrical/computer engineering, and science & technology studies. At Loyola, she directs the Recomputing Lab, reimagining how computing systems are designed and implemented for environmental sustainability.
Prior to joining Loyola, Dr. Lu completed her MS and PhD in Computer Science at the University of Chicago. She received a BS in Computer Science, BSE in Electrical/Computer Engineering, and Minor is Visual Media Studies from Duke University. Dr. Lu's work has been recognized through an ACM SIGCHI Special Recognition and as a 2025 EECS Rising Star. Her work has been covered by The New Scientist, Forbes, Communications of the ACM, and more.o
