You can go it alone, but...

You can go it alone, but...

The Last 10%

The Chicago Marathon is scheduled for October 11 this year and right now, entrants are at the height of their training. This reminds me of two of the lessons learned from my own marathon (bucket list, check!)

Lesson 1: You can go it alone, but it's better to go together.
My friend Maurice (Mo) is a champion of others' dreams. Back in the day you could enter the Chicago Marathon at any point. While I was running, Mo jumped in and ran with me from mile 19 to mile 25; then he jumped back out and went to meet me and my family at the finish line. It meant the world to me to have someone run alongside me when I was at my most tired. You can go it alone, but it’s so much better to go together.

Lesson 2: Pack mental fortitude and discipline for the journey.
Mental fortitude can carry you through the worst part of any marathon. Right now, the ability to endure and transcend the current state of business and life requires us to trust in ourselves. Now is the time to lean on our training, preparation, and discipline and to encourage one another. Come up alongside your brother, your cousin, your father, and your children.

Presently, we are living the stories our families will talk about for years to come. Don't go it alone. Trust your training and discipline. It will see us through.

You're muted.

Some of our members walk a fine balance between workforce safety, productivity, and the difficulty of returning to the office. Korn Ferry does a deep dive into all the issues here.

After you finish reading the article, please take out our HR Benchmarking survey. We need 10 more responses before we can share the results with members. Thank you in advance for your help!
