Understanding Your Paystub

 
Below is a sample of a Loyola University Chicago paystub.  Review the detailed description of each box to understand what information the section contains.
 
You can view your paystub by logging into Employee Self Service.  If you need to print a paystub, click on the "Printable Pay Stub" link within that specific pay date and a new window will open with a printable view of your paystub.

 

Box 1. Identification: This box includes your name, employee id, the location associated with the home department, and pay period start/end date.
 
Box 2. Hours and Earnings: These boxes include current hours worked (e.g. regular salary, vacation, holiday, sick, etc.), pay rate, and year‐to‐date hours and earnings.
 
Box 3. Taxes: This box itemizes the federal withholding, FICA (Medicare and social security tax), and state withholding current and year to date figures.
 
Box 4. Before‐Tax Deductions: Deductions such as medical, vision, and dental insurance and any other before‐tax deductions are listed in this box with current and year‐to‐date amounts. These are the amounts deducted from your gross pay before taxes are calculated.
 
Box 5. After‐Tax Deductions: All after‐tax deductions are listed in this box and include current and year‐to‐date amounts. These are the amounts deducted from your gross pay after taxes are calculated and do not reduce your taxable wages.
 
Box 6. Employer Tax: This box indicates the taxes Loyola is paying. Included are current and year to date totals.
 
Box 7. Employer Paid Benefits: This box indicates the benefits Loyola is paying. Included are current and year to date totals.
 
Box 8. Net Pay Distribution: This box indicates the payment routing information funds were distributed, the account number the funds are posting to, and the deposit amount.
