Our Mission and Values

Our Mission

First and Second Year Advising serves the academic advising and support needs of students at Loyola University Chicago through the first two years of their college experience. We provide students with advising services and referrals to our campus partners that contribute to a successful transition from high school to college and to our students’ holistic development, in line with our Jesuit, Catholic mission and Cura Personalis. We support and challenge our students in their pursuits of excellence and Magis, and guide them toward the completion of their academic goals and attainment of a degree in a timely manner.

Our Values

Student-Centered Approach

Our work with students is developmental, and we offer students support while challenging them to take ownership of their learning and to design their own academic experience.

Collaboration

We commit to a collaborative work environment in service of our students, one where we draw from the expertise in and out of our office to strengthen the support we provide. We seek out opportunities to work with colleagues in pursuit of common goals.

Community

We value our relationships with each other, our colleagues, and our students. We strive to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all peoples - a community of care and compassion.

Excellence

From new student orientation to express advising to the first-year seminar, we hope to create a consistently excellent experience. Students, parents, and campus partners can expect the same level of professionalism, knowledgeability, and care from all persons in our office.

Innovation

We commit to seeking new ways to serve our students. We strive to update and innovate the ways in which we operate. We take risks in a good-faith effort to continuously improve the quality of our work.
