Loyola University Chicago

January Term

J-Term 2022 classes will meet for 10 days, Monday-Friday, January 3-7, and Monday-Friday, January 10-14, 2022.

Registration for J-Term courses opens on Monday, October 18, 2021 and closes on Sunday, January 2, 2022.

Please keep in mind that J-Term is not part of the Spring term. Students can only register for one course.

If a J-Term class needs to be cancelled due to low enrollment, staff will e-mail students with information.  Decisions regarding class cancellation will be made by or on December 15, 2021. Students may confirm that their J-Term class will be offered by checking in LOCUS on December 15 or later.

The visiting student application will close Tuesday, December 20, 2021.

A waitlist will be created once a course section reaches full enrollment. To prevent automatic enrollment resulting in late-enrollment fees, waitlists will be active until December 30.

Impact of Incomplete Grades or Course Withdrawals for the January Term

It is in your best interest to complete all attempted course work for the January term. Incomplete grades that convert to the mark of “F” and the mark of “WF” will impact a student’s GPA as both marks count toward attempted hours. The mark of “W”, as an approved withdrawal from a course, does not factor into a student's attempted hours of GPA. However, these grade statuses will directly affect your course completion rate as required by the Federal Satisfactory Academic Progress policy. For more information, please refer to the Satisfactory Academic Progress policy.

Withdrawal from J-Term

Students withdraw from J-Term through LOCUS. The last day to withdraw from the term without a grade penalty (no mark of W recorded) is Wednesday, January, 5, 2022 at 11:59 pm. The last day to withdraw with a grade of "W" ("WF" thereafter) is Monday, January 10, 2022 at 11:59 pm. The last day to withdraw with a Bursar credit of 100% is Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 11:59 pm. For the complete Withdrawal Schedule, please, refer to the J-Term Registration and Class Schedule.
