An Insider’s Paris

Terlato Wines Armour Mansion Tour and Wine Tasting

In 1916, meat-packing heir Philip D. Armour, III and his wife Gwendolen commissioned noted architect Harrie T. Lindeberg to design and build their country home, Tangley Oaks. Today, Tangley Oaks is often noted as one of the most important examples of Tudor Gothic architecture in America. This home is one of the grand estates of the bygone era of magnificent country estates. The home took sixteen years to complete and in its original configuration was comprised of 61 rooms, 100 closets, 15 bathrooms and nine fireplaces. Restored in 1996 by the Terlato Family, Tangley Oaks is listed on the U.S. Department of the Interior’s National Register of Historic Places.

1. Three Pilgrimage Churches with Fr. Ted Bohr, S.J.
Fr. Ted Bohr, S.J., has lived and studied in Mexico, Ecuador, Peru, and the Dominican Republic. He is an art historian teaching modern art and a course on the theology of the pilgrimage at Loyola’s John Felice Rome Center. This rare opportunity to see Rome through a Jesuit’s own experience is one for seasoned travelers who think they have seen it all.
2. Roman Historical Sites with Alexander Evers, Ph.D.
Dr. Alexander Evers has a Ph.D. in ancient history from Oxford University and has been a lecturer at Utrecht University in Holland since 2000. Prior to that, he served as a tutor in ancient history at Brasenose College in Oxford and as assistant dean (1998-1999). He is a practicing musician, playing organ and piano, both as a soloist and accompanying choirs, and performing in the Vatican Choir of Saint Peter’s in Rome. Dr. Evers will be visiting ancient sites to provide his scholarly insight into the significance of each site in the history of Rome.
