The Loyola University Chicago community mourns the death of Father Cesaire Mounda, MSC, a graduate student in the School of Communication, after battling an illness.

Father Mounda, a native of Cameroon, was a member of the Community of Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, which sponsored him while he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies at Loyola. During his time at the University as an undergraduate, he was on the dean’s list and was a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. He also worked with Rambler Productions, a student-staffed video production service that serves the University and community at large, and volunteered his time tutoring children at the Willye B. White Park District. Prior to his studies at Loyola, he earned a degree in theology at Ecole Théologique St. Cyprien de Ngoya in 2011 and a degree in philosophy at the Institut de Philosophie St. Joseph Mukasa in 2005.

Father Mounda’s professors at Loyola remember him as a smart and dedicated student, as well as an individual full of energy and joy. He dreamed of returning to his homeland to work for the Catholic Church and share all he had learned with the youth in Cameroon. Richelle Rogers, director of the digital media and storytelling graduate program in the School of Communication, said, “Cesaire was a student of dignity, integrity, and compassion. His values were evident in his work and his life example was equally memorable among so many students and faculty. He consistently approached his work and life with great enthusiasm and with the integrity of a student always willing to learn.”

Cards and condolence notes brought to the funeral service will be given to Father Mounda’s family by his fellow Cameroonian priests in attendance.
