Sacramental Life strives to promote the prayerful preparation of liturgy and the development of the faith life of the worshiping community. Moreover, it protects the investment of the University in Madonna della Strada Chapel. Unlike diocesan-owned churches and formally erected parishes, this chapel is operated and maintained by the University, functions as an apostolic outreach of the Jesuits on campus, and serves a diverse and transient congregation. Yet, it must adhere to guidelines and policies for Roman Catholic spaces of worship and liturgical celebrations. These guidelines are promulgated by the Archdiocese of Chicago. Madonna della Strada Chapel is an extension and laboratory of Campus Ministry and in addition to liturgy, serves an educational purpose.
For the student members of the faith community, the vision is that through their participation in liturgies at Madonna della Strada Chapel, they are well prepared to be active members of their local parish upon graduation.
