Mission, Vision, and Core Values
Mission
We are the interdisciplinary hub for impactful racial justice research, education, and community-building across Loyola University Chicago and beyond.
Vision
Rooted in Ignatian values of social justice and action, we will educate generations of leaders and scholars armed with the skills and networks to dismantle racist systems and replace them with inclusive, equitable ecosystems founded on hope and equal dignity for all.
What We Do
We bring people, organizations, and resources together to collaboratively design and test new strategies meant to address pressing economic, education, and health needs. These efforts allow IRJ to serve as a catalytic partner in dismantling long-standing racial inequities in the greater Chicagoland area while simultaneously providing transformational learning experiences for youth and adult learners that is aimed at building the next generation of socially conscious, ethical, and diverse racial justice and equity scholars.
Core Values (the HAART of all we do)
- Humanity. We believe in the full humanity of all people and view the pursuit of racial justice as serving the common good.
- Accessibility. We believe education is a human right and communicating in ways that are accessible to the broadest range of people possible.
- Accountability. We believe in deep and sustained relationships and thus take responsibility for our words and actions and expect the same from those with whom we partner.
- Reflection. We believe in continuously learning, unlearning, and improving—individually and collectively—as a requirement for breaking down systems and mindsets that maintain racial injustice.
- Transformative action. We believe society is transformed when everyone actively participates in creating the conditions for substantive change.
