As a Faculty Member

The Institute for Racial Justice (IRJ) is seeking to identify a diverse group of faculty who have an interest in work focused on race (or ethnicity) and social justice to become an IRJ faculty affiliate.

This application is open to all full-time or part-time faculty at Loyola University Chicago who are interested in access to a supportive scholarly environment with access to a network of faculty members and students who can collaborate on mission-aligned work. The goal is to create a network of faculty affiliates to meet with each other, learn about new research and opportunities, build relationships, and collectively contribute to IRJ expertise and resources. 

We warmly invite both full- and part-time faculty members of Loyola University Chicago to become valued members of our interdisciplinary community of scholars dedicated to advancing racial justice and equity.

By becoming an IRJ Faculty Affiliate, you can harness your unique expertise and combine it with the extensive resources the IRJ offers. This partnership will leverage your immense talents and career goals to catalyze progress toward our shared objectives.

Collaborate with us to build community and create scholarship that sparks tangible change as part of a dynamic team. We provide comprehensive support for grant writing and offer professional development opportunities tailored to research focused on dismantling racism in all its manifestations. Our extensive network of connections ensures that your work is enriched by insights from seasoned community and academic scholars, resulting in rigorous and actionable activities and final products.

Faculty Affiliate
Role Description
  • Affiliates contribute to IRJ expertise and resources.
Term
  • Two-years with opportunity to renew at the end of each term.Eligibility:Full- or part-time faculty with an interest in work focused on race (or ethnicity) and social justice.
Benefits
  • Access to a supportive scholarly environment with access to a network of faculty members and students who can collaborate on mission-aligned work.
  • Connection to community partners with whom to collaborate.
  • Information on funding opportunities and grant-writing workshops.
  • Access to student researcher/s.
  • Dissemination of your IRJ mission-aligned work via its website, social media, and in the larger campus and local community.
Expectations
  • Attend at least one IRJ-sponsored activity in spring and fall semesters, including speaker series, symposia, workshops, or social event.
  • Complete at least one IRJ-sponsored research or scholarly activity (e.g., present work, op-ed, blog post, mentoring, manuscript reviewer) during their term.
  • Acknowledge IRJ affiliation (or support, if applicable) in conference papers and work completed during their term.
  • Submit annual report outlining awards, research or scholarly work, and teaching/mentoring efforts aligned with IRJ’s mission.
