About

Jean M. Cocozza is a Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County. Prior to her appointment to the bench, Judge Cocozza was the Senior Law Clerk to Justice Charles E. Freeman of the Illinois Supreme Court. In that capacity, she drafted proposed opinions, as well as prepared bench memoranda and assisted in motion practice, in pending appeals. Prior to joining Justice Freeman's staff, Judge Cocozza worked as a law clerk to several justices on the Illinois Appellate Court, First District. During law school, she was a member of the Loyola Law Journal and served as Student Articles Editor. She also completed both an externship and an internship at the Office of the Illinois Attorney General, Criminal Appeals Bureau, where she assisted in the preparation of direct and collateral review appeals in state courts and habeas corpus cases in federal courts.
