Academic Integrity

Promote academic integrity through technology and design

Promoting academic integrity in online courses is a shared responsibility among instructors, students, and the University. To better ensure Loyola's commitment to academic honesty in all classes, instructors can leverage technology, good course design, and support services offered by the University.

The Office of Online Learning (OOL) supports instructors in ensuring academic integrity in their online courses in several ways:

  • OOL consults with faculty on the recommended use of academic integrity technologies, such as TurnItIn for plagiarism detection and Examity for test and exam proctoring.
  • OOL helps academic programs and instructors review their online courses, looking for ways to promote integrity through design. Assignment design, test- and quiz-question wording, and even general instructions for assignments and activities can help steer students away from actions that would violate Loyola’s academic integrity code.
  • Instructors can also review OOL’s Academic Integrity Toolbox, which walks through many of the technology and design solutions that are available for promoting academic honesty.

To consult with OOL on any matter related to academic integrity in online courses, email us at online@luc.edu.
