Online Teaching Fundamentals

The Office of Online Learning is excited to announce the new Online Teaching Fundamentals course starting in Fall 2023. Replacing both OTC: Design and OTC: Facilitate, Online Teaching Fundamentals is a unified, 6-module course that prepares Loyola instructors to create and deliver engaging, high-quality online courses using the Loyola suite of technologies. Guided by research-informed methodologies, participants will learn to:

  • Identify the processes and strategies that define high-quality online learning experiences
  • Use the backward design process to create engaging, active, and aligned online courses
  • Create robust online course environments using appropriate technologies
  • Design inclusive and accessible online learning environments
  • Prepare an online learning environment characterized by presence, community, and communication

The course can be completed entirely asynchronously and on each participant's schedule within one semester. Instructors who complete the course will leave with practical course content they can use in their future courses and will also have the option of earning an Online Teaching Fundamentals badge through the Credly platform. If you have been notified that you are required to take this course, but have extensive experience teaching online, visit the Competency Equivalent page for an alternative option.

Registration for the Fall 2024 Online Teaching Fundamentals course is now open! Registration will close on November 3, 2024, for the Fall term.
