The Professional activities of Social Workers can evoke difficult emotions and a high degree of stress. For this reason, compassionately caring for oneself is an important aspect of social work practice. Meditation can play a helpful role in this process. In this workshop, we will learn about meditation and self-compassion from the perspectives of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Buddhism through lectures, discussions, and several short meditation practices.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Participants will learn the six core processes of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and how to apply them to their own self-care needs
  • Participants will learn Acceptance and Commitment Therapy principles for cultivating present-moment awareness as a means of self-compassion and self-care
  • Participants will learn several Buddhist perspectives on the importance of self-compassion and self-care
  • Participants will engage in four guided meditations focused on self-compassion and self-care, based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Buddhism
