Strategic Plan - DEV
Forming Physicians, Elevating Discovery, Deepening Mission, Strengthening Capacity
Our Mission
We are Chicago's Jesuit Catholic medical school — a compassionate community advancing medicine through exceptional clinical training, scientific inquiry, rigorous research, personal and professional formation, and an unwavering commitment to those we serve.
Executive Summary
This strategic plan organizes the priorities of the Stritch School of Medicine around four pillars: medical education quality and mission alignment; research infrastructure and scholarly output; Jesuit, Catholic institutional identity; and operational and administrative capacity. LCME accreditation standards provide an important structuring context throughout, and the plan's initiatives and key performance indicators have been developed with attention to those standards.
Pillar 1 addresses curriculum design and oversight, student assessment, admissions, faculty development, and the learning environment — areas that map directly onto core LCME expectations. Pillar 2 focuses on research administration and scholarly output, relevant both to LCME's expectations regarding the scholarly environment and to the institution's R1 trajectory. Pillar 3 addresses Jesuit, Catholic mission and identity, with implications for curriculum coherence, professionalism formation, and faculty orientation. Pillar 4 addresses enrollment strategy, clinical training capacity, learning space modernization, and data infrastructure — areas where LCME standards place explicit institutional obligations.
Implementation will be coordinated across academic, administrative, and clinical units, with progress reported through the Strategic Planning Committee, which reports directly to the dean. Key performance indicators are intended to support both internal decision-making and accreditation documentation. A companion implementation document is currently in development and will establish timelines, measurement metrics, persons accountable, and any necessary budgetary implications for each initiative.
